About Wawoum.com
What is Wawoum.com ?Wawoum.com is a small web application that allows you to store and manage
all expenses related to your vehicule(s) (eg : moto, car...).
It also alows to store geographical information (points of interest, or
routes) and to share them with other users
Yes. User login "demo", password "demo"
Who makes this site ?Wawoum.com is first and foremost one of my current hobbies : I keep my
fingers busy developping it when the weather is too bad to go riding my bike ;)
If you find an annoying bug, or want to contribute some patch, you should
know that the application is GPL. As of now, contact me for the sources
Yes.
What about confidentiality ?Your data is not shared with anyone. The application allows you to publish
some of it (points, routes, ...). Hoever the default is to keep everything
private. It's your choice to publish or not.
Don't forget to choose a strong password !
Err, ya it might.
This is a list of what I plan to implement someday, without agenda :
- Rewrite of the budgect part in AJAX
- Open the maps for anyone (public elements only)
- Possibility to comment a route or point
- Possibility for users to blog
- Possibility for users to have a mail mylogin@wawoum.com ?
- Rewrite of the map part to not redisplay everything with every update
- PDF export of the budgect part
- Expenses categories configurable by user
- Possibility to store GPS tracks for routes
- Publish a route
- Show a route on the map
- Use gettext for intl.
- Import from CSV
- Export to CSV
- Zomm the graphics
- Reminder of the next maintenance
- ... (your ideas or patches)
Using the « budgect » part
How do I use the budgect part ?Start by filling in the details about your vehicule in your preferences
(date of purchase, mileage and price at least)
Then, with each expense, add a row in the either the « Maintenance and
equipment » tab or the « Gas details » tab. For gas, you
shall also type in the distance driven with the previous fill (use the daily
counter of your vehicule).
The application will then calculate all sorts of averages and graphics to
summarize your budgect/usage. Those information are available in the
different tabs of the page.
Go into your preferences, and fill the mileage of your vehicule at the date you start to use the application. The offset will be calculated.
I want to use Wawoum.com for my byke AND my carIn your preferences, tab « vehicules », you'll find that you can have several vehicules. Once created, you can switch from on to the other by using the drop down menu on the top right of the page
Using the maps
What are the maps for ?The aim is to allow you to store and share info about points of interests
(such as shops, meeting points ...) and routes (eg : road books)
The routes can be imported from GPX or KML files. They can be exported to GPX.
In the « my points » tab, click the add button, and fill in name and description of your new point. The checkbox allows you to publish the point (visible for all users of Wawoum.com).
How to place my point on the right spot ?By default a newly created point appears centered in the current map view. Once created, you can simply drag it to it's final position.
Why can't I move (drag) a public poiut ?Publick points are locked. If you want to move one, you must first uncheck the « public » checkbox.
How to add a route ?In the my tracks tab, click on the add button. Pick the file to import and fill in title and description before validating. You will be able to change name and/or description after creation.
Why did my route loose points overnight ?To gain in efficacity, imported routes are simplified by a night batch. No noticable impact should apear, only superfluous points will be trimmed (eg : intermediate points in a straight line).
How come my usual fuel station does not apear on the map ?Gas stations are imported from the data available from OpenStreeMap. Beeing a colaborative project, OpenStreeMap might not know about your favorite gas station. Why don't you contribute by adding it ?
My preferences
What's the use of the « public elements » checkboxes in my preferences ?As of now (22/4/9) those checkboxes are not used ! The goal is to allow Wawoum users to publish certain types of data, for example to compare gas prices.
Using the blog
Can I blog with Wawoum ?Yes ! On the blog page, you can add articles (a link appears on the right) and post comment on other's posts (links under each article)
Messages can be edited or deleted by their creator or the site admin
Why not use a fullblown forum ?Wawoum's goal was never to be the n-th bike oriented forum, there are enough of those already. I simply added the possibility to post small comments for those wanting to comment about the site.
Can I format my articles ?Yes. Wawoum understands some basic tags to add formatting to your posts. I copied the phpBB syntax that a lot of you already know.
- foobar will put the text in bold
- foobar will put the text in italics
- http:///www.wawoum.com and A link to Wawoum (pick one syntax) will add a link
- Lines starting with « * » (space, star, space) will be shown as bullets.
That's it :) Yeah I know, no images, no colors, no smileys and no fancycool signatures. But again, Wawoum is not a forum.
